Its time for the Unions to modernise or die

Do you agree with the Prime Minister and Chancellor that it is time for the unions to grow up and live in the real world. Both have made it clear that there was no future in a revival of union militancy. To read more http://www.oxfordprospect.co.uk/Oxford%20Editorial.htm
I would like to hear your views on this and other subjects.

Unions are a backward form of political organisation. We should concentrate on building new forms of political organisation capable of changing the world around us- what they will be, we will just have to create. Unions however, don't seem the way forward. So in a sense, it doesn't matter what Blair says about them.

The reason that unions are becoming more militant is that workers are being treated badly. Gate Gourmet is just the most obvious example. Instead of calling on unions to modernize, the government should call on employers to civilize.
